about

This song came from a fond memory of mine. Prom night when I was 18. Not knowing how to grind, twerk, or whatever else was around at the time, I decided to swing dance with my date. People started asking us how to do it and we spent the night swing dancing to hip hip, R&B, and rap. This spawn is a tribute to that and classic nostalgia to a time when most of us weren't alive.

lyrics

Take my hand in yours
we’re going down to the floor
Gonna teach an old dance
break all the rules
So put your feet on mine
we’re going back in time
Gonna dance away
like it’s 1932

And it’s okay if you fall,
Cause I’ll catch you
then we’ll sway like it’s love
And all the lights are dimmed, and their backing away,
yeah they’ve misplaced their
speech and they’re giving us space.

While we spin,
oh yeah we’re going to spin
So raise your glass
of your whiskey’s and your gin

So they called us classy
yeah they called us hipsters
cause we wear our glasses
and we think it’s cool
So you straighten my bowtie
while I snap on suspenders
cause that’s what we do
when we make our rendezvous

While we spin,
oh yeah we’re going to spin
So raise your glass
of your whiskeys and your gin
Then we’re gonna sway,
gonna sway the night away
So raise your glass
to the Speakeasy Age

So take a bow we’re standing out tonight
When all we do is dance in black and white
And your twirling dress, slow motion in their eyes
So take a bow we’re standing out tonight
